Andrea Shaw / Doorways

AS1a

“The inspiration for the artworks within this exhibition was as the title suggests. The different, shapes, sizes, colours and patterns found on doorways and building facades served as a starting point for layouts and colour explorations. Doorways aims to explore different view points; simpler constructed layouts representing doors/ facades and exterior aspects and more detailed patterned works representing what may lay beyond or from above.”

Andrea Shaw is a multidisciplinary artist living and working in Torquay. Drawing from her studies in landscape architecture and textile design, strong relationships between colour, pattern, surface and space inform her works. Often using found or discarded materials as a starting point for her process, Shaw’s practice is varied and she experiments with textiles, wood, paper, vinyl and different paint mediums. Deciding to move on from her well known and loved brand Stampel in late 2015, Shaw’s focus now is her artistic practice and we are excited for her debut solo exhibition.
