Rachel Hine has been involved with the expressive art form of tapestry for the past 20 years. Studying Fine Art to Masters level at Monash University, under the tutelage of the late, master weaver, Kate Derum. This offered a unique experience of truly using tapestry as the medium, just like a painter uses paint.
These works represent a survey of new work in progress. Rachel has an ongoing interest in the notion of ‘looking’ and the wild nature of people and animals. Construction of weave and how it relates to fur have also become an interesting path of research through experimentation, with a generous nod to European post-war weavers.
