Andrea Shaw / Fabric of Place

Andrea Shaw is a multidisciplinary artist living and working in Torquay. Drawing from her studies in landscape architecture and textile design, strong relationships between colour, pattern, surface and space inform her works. Often painting abstract representations of the many planes of the natural landscape she creates dynamic and playful works. Andrea’s practice is varied and she experiments with textiles, wood, paper and different paint mediums.

Fabric of Placeaims to explore the intersection between humans and their environment, both natural and man-made. Looking at expected and unexpected layers of movement that make up the places we inhabit. This exhibition will feature mixed media collage and acrylic paintings on canvas and board.

Andrea has taken inspiration from the different aspects of her local landscape; the ocean, flora and fauna, walking paths and dwellings; considering how layers of human design and movement impact these aspects. Weaving different elements of texture, colour and form together, Andrea has created abstract works that could be described as ‘Constructed Textile Landscapes’.
