Madeleine Peters / Olivine

Olivine acknowledges landscape as an ever shifting space of material and cultural changes. The young volcanic ground of South-Western Victoria becomes a setting for Peters’ recollections to play out, assembling a strange and familiar dream.

The limitation of memory is observed in these works, natural exaggeration and disintegration of experience evident in each scene. The composition and atmosphere changes with each return to the canvas, building layers of conflicting memory and paint.

The paintings in this exhibition were all formed from experiences on the traditional lands of the Gunditjmara and Girrai Wurrung peoples. The artist would like to acknowledge their Elders past, present and emerging.

Olivineis on view 14 June – 15 July 2018.
